Packet Sniffers
Packet sniffer is a network and protocol analyzer that can intercept (sniff) traffic on a network.
- listens for any traffic that your computer or device’s network interface can see, whether you were intended to receive it or not
How it Works
- place it on the network in a position that allows you to see the traffic you’d like to sniff
- most modern networks are segmented in a way that makes it difficult to see other traffic
- Thus, need to gain access to a higher-level network switch
- may need to use specialized equipment or configurations to access the target sniff
