A worm is a type of malware that replicates between processes in system memory and can spread over client/server network connections.

• can run without user intervention
• can execute by exploiting a vulnerability in a process when the user:
  • browses a website
  • runs a vulnerable server application
  • or is connected to an infected file share
• can carry a payload to perform any malicious action
