Wi-Fi Overcapacity Issues
Overcapacity occurs when too many client devices connect to the same AP.
- aka device saturation
- max number of clients supported by an AP varies
- but 30 clients per AP is good rule of thumb
- can configure a max number of connections on AP
- even with low client connections, wireless network can suffer from bandwidth saturation
- available bandwidth is shared by all clients
- wireless controller typically has reporting tools to
- diagnose bandwidth issues
- identify client bandwidth consumption
- wireless channel utilization
- can configure APs and clients to reassign channels dynamically
- if a traffic shaper is used,
- may automatically throttle bandwidth to overactive nodes
