• Installing structured cable from a bulk spool is referred to as pulling cable
  • cable must be pulled form the telecommunications closet to the work area
  • routed through conduits or wall spaces
    • avoids:
      • excessive bends
      • electrical power cables and fittings
      • fluorescent lights
• main fixed cable can be run up to 90 m (295 ft)
• Start at the patch panel:
  • label the end of the cable with the jack ID
  • run through to work area
    • called a drop
      • usually drop the cable from the ceiling space to the wall cavity
  • leave slack at both ends (service loop)
  • cut the cable
  • label other end with ID
