Physical Security Threats

Physical security threats generally fall into a few main categories:

  • Movement
  • Smoke and fire
  • Toxins
  • People
  • Energy anomalies
  • Extreme temperature
  • Gases
  • Liquids
  • Living organisms
  • Projectiles

Donn Parker defined seven of these categories—extreme temperature, gases, liquids, living organisms, projectiles, movement, and energy anomalies—in his book Fighting Computer Crime, where he also introduces the Parkerian hexad.
