Water
- chilled water loops are a primary way to cool datacenters
- backup for chilled water is often water directly from the utility provider
- can be circulated to provided less-effective cooling
- also needed for fire suppression
- ensure water is ready and in sufficient supply for needs
Natural Gas
- may be used as part of backup power generation systems
- on-site diesel tanks are more common
- gas distribution can fail in a disaster
- important for human-habitable service and support areas in colder regions
- HVAC systems are put in place to handle these areas independently, if needed
