Information technology (IT) is a system comprising independent parts that work together to advance an organization’s goals and vision by increasing growth, profits, and productivity. For an IT system to function efficiently and effectively, three key components are involved: hardware, software, and people.

In the Information Technology Foundations course, you will explore IT as a system, IT system components, and how the components of an IT system work together. More specifically, you will examine software such as operating systems, programming, and databases, as well as the supporting computer hardware structure and peripherals. You will learn about the roles and functions necessary for the IT system to function properly. Finally, you will learn how networking encompasses all three of the key components of the IT system to allow resource sharing, cross-department integration, data security, and ethical practices.
