The Berkeley Source Definition (BSD) Licenses are used by the open source BSD OSs and by various software components developed for them.

• allow modifications to be distributed under other licenses
• two common ones:
  • three-clause version
    • aka Simplified BSD or FreeBSD License
  • two-clause version
    • aka new or revised BSD license
